Hello, everyone! Today the topic of our lesson is “Teenage life in Britain” and we are going to learn a lot of new information and phrases connected with this theme.

At the very beginning, let’s look at age ranges in the English language:

1 – 12 months – a baby

1- 3 years – a toddler

3 -12 years – a child

13 — 19 years – a teenager

19 – 45 years – an adult

45 — 65 – A middle aged adult

65 years and over – an elderly person

Today we are going to talk about a typical teenager, who is between 13 and 19.

Before our talk about teenage life, let’s look at these phrases:

Pocket money – карманные деньги

Extra money – лишние деньги, дополнительный доход

Spend money on something – тратить деньги на что-то

Surf the net – сидеть в интернете

Help someone out around the house – помогать по дому кому-то

Wear a school uniform – носить школьную форму

Get along with someone – хорошо ладить, находить общий язык с кем-то

Argue – спорить, ссориться

Allow somebody to use something – разрешать кому-нибудь что-то делать

Disagree – не соглашаться с чьим-то мнением

This is Tom. Tom is a typical teenager. He lives in England.

Let’s listen to his story about teenage life in Britain:

Hello!

My name is Tom. Like many other teenagers, I live in a semi-detached house with my parents.

My school:

I study at a typical English school. We wear a school uniform.

Lessons start at 8.30 a.m. with the class register when the teacher checks who is absent, and finish at about 3.15 p.m

During break time, we play games in the playground.

12.15 is lunch time. I eat lunch in the canteen with my friends.

My pocket money:

I get £20 a week from my parents. I spend my money on interesting books, music and my hobby, skating.

Sometimes my parents give me extra money for helping them out around the house. I wash up and vacuum.

My free time:

Like any other teenager, I like surfing the Net and spend time on social networks. I am also keen on ice skating, I go to the skating rink 3 times a week with my friends.

My family:

I don’t have a big family: my parents, grant parents and me.

I also have an uncle and an aunt and their child, my family and I get along very well.

Sometimes I argue with my cousin, because I don’t let her use my computer.

My opinion about being a teenager;

It’s nice to be a teenager.

On the one hand, we have to study hard and take lots of exams; on the other hand, we have a lot of free time and afterschool activities. It’s a cool time!
