How do you like spending your free time? At first, of course, we feel like getting some sleep and playing with friends. But then we want to take the most of our time and learn something new.
In our free time we like going to the cinema, the theatre and even travelling. Wherever we go, we should get ready for it in advance. Nowadays we can book tickets beforehand by internet or by phone. It’s very convenient.
Our characters are on holidays now. Their parents decided to give them a good present – a performance in a local theatre! The children are very glad. They saw a poster and they want to watch that play. But it is raining cats and dogs outside. They’ve got an idea! There is a phone number on the poster. They are going to book tickets by the phone! How can they do it? We are going to find it out!
First, let’s learn some new words and expressions. They will be useful for us.
To book — заказывать
A seat — место
A row — ряд
The (Orchestra) stalls — партер
A gallery, a balcony — балкон
A stage — сцена
In advance, beforehand — заранее
Now let’s find out how they use these words in their speech.
— Hello. How can I help you?
— Good morning. I’d like to book ticket for the «Romeo and Juliette” on the 24th of October.
— I’m sorry. The tickets are not available on this date.
— Oh, what a pity. Are there any other dates?
— Yes, sure. There are some tickets left for this performance on the 1st of November.
— Great! That will do! May I book four tickets in the orchestra stalls?
— Yes, you may. There are available seats in the fourth
row, near the front, which cost £30 each, and
some nearer the centre … £25 each. Which
would you like?
— Mmmm … The ones near the centre, I think. Two adult and two student tickets, please.
— That comes to a total of £90. How would you
like to pay?
— Can I pay by credit card?
— Certainly, sir. Just give me the number and the expiry date.
— 3959 3854 1104 9455 Expires this March.
— What name should I book them under?
— The Smiths. It’s S-M-I-T-H-S.
— Done. Thank you. The play starts at 7 pm. You can collect your tickets at the theatre before the play. Don’t forget student IDs and enjoy the play.
— Thank you very much.
You can get your tickets by e-mail or collect them from the ticket office before the play.
To book tickets by the phone is easy! Let’s wish Mary and her mom enjoy the play. And let’s try to book tickets by the phone ourselves!
