Hello, everyone!

Today we are going to talk about different means of transport.

Let’s look at the most common means of transport in the world.

A bus

A train

A plane

A taxi

A ship

The underground, or Metro

A tram

A trolleybus

A suburban train

We can get to different places by using these different means of transport:

We can get to the USA by plane.

We can get around the city centre by Underground.

We can get to Saint-Petersburg by train.

And we can also go on foot or walk.

On foot means, to walk

For example, we can say:

1) We go on foot to school

2) We walk to school.

These sentences have absolutely the same meaning.

What means of transport do you use?

Let’s look at this dialogue:

Tom has decided to learn how Denis gets to his school.

Tom: How do you get to school, Денис?

Denis: I walk to school. And you?

Tom: I go to school by bus.

Denis How long does it take you to get to your school?

Tom: it takes me 10 minutes.

Denis: Well. And how does your Mom get to work?

Tom: she gets to work by Underground. It takes her half an hour. It’s very fast and comfortable.

If you ask for directions, you’ll need this question:

Excuse me!

How can I get to….?

Let’s repeat together:

How?

How can I get to?

How can I get to the library?

How can I get to the park?

How can I get to the Underground?

Let’s repeat the answers:

You can get to the library by bus.

You can get to the park by Underground.

You can get to the Underground by tram.

Also, we should know the question and the answer about the time you need:

How much time does it take?

It will take you 5 minutes.

How much time does it take to get to the church?

It will take you half an hour.

If you use public transport you might hear this expression:

Fares, please!

That means that you need to buy a ticket.

So, we’ve had a close look at the means of public transport that are typical in all countries. What about specific public transport connected with certain countries. Let’s look at London’s public transport system.

They have a lot of room inside for passengers and their luggage.
