Hello, everyone! Today we are going to learn some phrases that English people use everyday, words that are connected to our habits, daily routine and activities.

Let’s have a close look at these phrases:

Get up

Brush teeth

Take a shower

Wash face

Get dressed

Do morning exercises

Have breakfast

Make your bed

Go to school

Have lessons at school

Play sports

Come home

Have lunch

Do homework

Have a snack

Go out with friends

Have dinner

Play computer games

Surf the Internet

Have a bath

Go to bed

Let’s look at these questions:

How many times do you brush your teeth?

How many times do you have a snack?

In this case we need phrases like this:

Once

For example:

I brush my teeth once a day.

Twice

For example: I go out with my friends twice a week.

If we do something more, than once or twice, we use the word, times:

3 times, 7 times, 10 times.

For example:

I have a snack 3 times a day.

Or:

I go to school 5 times a week.

Let’s look at these questions:

What time do you have breakfast?

What time do you get up?

What time?

In the answers we need the preposition, “at”:

For example:

I get up at 7 o’clock.

Or

I have breakfast at 8 o’clock.

If someone asks us:

How often?

For example:

How often do you make your bed?

Or

How often do you take a shower?

We need these adverbs of frequency:

Always

For example:

We always do homework at home.

Usually, normally or generally

For example:

She usually goes out with friends at weekends

Often or frequently

For example:

They often play computer games.

Sometimes

For example:

Sometimes she gets up at 10 o’clock.

Occasionally

For example:

I occasionally eat fast food.

Rarely, seldom or hardly ever

For example:

He rarely has a bath.

Never

I never watch TV.

Let’s look at this girl. Her name is Ann. She is 12.

Ann studies in 6th grade.

This is her typical day:

At 7 o’clock, Ann gets up.

At 7.15, she takes a shower and brushes her teeth.

At 7.30, Ann has breakfast and gets dressed.

At 8 o’clock, she goes to school.

Usually Ann has 6 lessons at school.

She generally comes home at 3 o’clock.

Then she has lunch and does her homework.

Ann normally goes out with friends after her homework.

She generally has dinner with her parents at 9 p.m.

At 10 o’clock, Ann goes to bed.

Let’s ask some questions about Ann’s free time:

How often does Ann surf the Net?

Ann surfs the Internet twice a day, after school and in the evening.

How often does Ann put on makeup?

Ann puts on makeup very rarely, only for parties.

How often does Ann have a snack?

Ann has a snack once a day.

How often does Ann play sports?

She often plays sports, 3 times a week.

How often does Ann play computer games?

She always plays computer games when she has free time, 3 or 4 times a day.

How often does Ann play football?

Ann never plays football.
