Have you ever thought where the names of shops come from?

It’s very simple, most of them come from the names of professions of people working there:

• a butcher is a person who sells meat and poultry;
• a baker is a person who bakes and/or sells bread and cakes;
• a chemist is a person who sells medicine;
• a hairdresser is a person who cuts the customer’s hair;
• a florist is a person who sells flowers and pot plants;
• a jeweler is a person who sells golden and silver jewelry;
• a greengrocer is a person who sells fruit and vegetables.

Now you see that «‘s» at the end of these words means the possessive form!
