Education specialists are worried that school students in some countries are
not creative enough for the modern world. They blame those school systems that are
mostly focused on giving students knowledge without developing their soft skills.
Thus, students try hard to just learn the material to get good marks. Specialists are
sure that such an approach reduces students’ abilities to be open-minded and to
produce new ideas.
Their other point is that our life is mostly based on success. For instance,
success at exams often means entrance to university. Success at university often
means a good job. People who work hard and are successful at what they do often
get promoted at work, and so on. So, trying to get successful quickly and easily,
people stick to old ideas, the ones they are sure of.
However, psychologists say that we should value our mistakes and failures.
People who take risks often come up with new and innovative ideas. If they are told
their ideas are silly or wrong, this is not good for our fast-changing world.
So, most successful employers are sure that if they criticise their employees’
ideas, the employees may give up. It is similar to sending a group of explorers to
a new land to find mineral resources. If they don’t manage, you should not blame
them for this. Otherwise, they will quit and you will end up with nothing.
If we take learning foreign languages, sometimes you have to make mistakes,
because otherwise it becomes difficult to communicate. When you talk to
foreigners, and they don’t understand you, you should try to find a different way of
saying what you want to say and should not give up. Making a mistake sometimes
means making progress!
